Capacity Building Programme enables UWASNET Members to influence and respond to policies, strategies and implementation mechanisms through networking and information exchange.

Purpose of the Capacity building Programme

The Purpose is to develop an effective, dynamic and independent civil society in the water and sanitation Sector which can both complement and inform Government in achieving sustainable access to safe water and sanitation in Uganda.

Objectives of the Capacity building Programme

  • To strengthen the capacity of UWASNET members to serve as an effective hub for increased access to safe water and sanitation.
  • To enable UWASNET to effectively manage and monitor the capacity building programme.
  • To enable UWASNET members to respond and influence the Ugandan policy and institutional environment in relation to water supply and sanitation.

The UWASNET capacity building programme involves

  • Pilot projects like rain water harvesting,self water supply, rope pump and software
  • NGO Direct funded projects like The McKnight Foundation project that is currently being implemented among the 2 women groups( Katosi Women Development Trust and Two Wings Agro Forestry Network in Mokono and Kabale districts respectively)
  • NGO Physical auditing. This is a monitoring exercise to all UWASNET Members that is conducted by Secretariat staff after every 2 years. NGOs that are found not to comply with the standards set by UWASNET are suspended by the Management Board/UWASNET Executive Committee. This practice is a quality assurance mechanism.
