London Professor wins 2008 SIWI Water Prize
Stockholm, March 19, 2008 – Professor John Anthony Allan from King’s College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies has been named the 2008 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate. Professor Allan pioneered the development of key concepts in the understanding and communication of water issues and how they are linked to agriculture, climate change, economics and politics. The USD 150,000 Stockholm Water Prize will be presented August 21 in the Stockholm City Hall. H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden is the Patron of the Stockholm Water Prize.
First African Water Week celebrations held successfully
For the First time in Africa, Tunisian town of Tunis was graced to host the First Africa Water Week at Sheraton Tunis between March 26th-29th, 2008. The theme was, accelerating water security for the socio-Economic Development. This event attracted several high level participants all over the world. A total participation of 540 including 30 African Ministers responsible for Water resources, and the Chair of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Water, His Royal Highness Wilhelm-Alexander, Prince of Orange. Participants represented Governments and State-run institutions, bilateral and multilateral institutions, development partners, the private sector, service providers and civil society |
