PILOT PROJECT |
| Introduction
This field report covers progress of activities in the last phase of the project; mass tank construction phase observed when I visited the RWH pilot project areas from 26-29th June 2005. Construction of the cost shared tanks started in both project areas and in some sub-counties in both areas, some groups have completed construction of rainwater systems for all the group members. Owing to a number of challenges, both implementing NGOs are yet to complete construction of the cost shared systems although the set date for the completion of the project was June 2005. Mr. Kaleega William, the in-charge of Technical backstopping on behalf of URWA joined me for the second day in the Mbarara project area. The team was not able to visit the ACORD project area because of bad timing as the officer responsible for the project had a very busy schedule. However I was able to meet with him and get an update on the project. Progress and details on construction of cost shared tanks per Sub-county per group is shown in Annex 1. Read More...

Programe Implementation
This document is the Implementation Manual for the Ugandan NGO Capacity Building
Programme (subsequently referred to as the Programme). The manual provides a detailed
explanation regarding the operation of the Programme and the roles and responsibilities of all
Programme stakeholders. The manual will be updated on an annual basis. Subsequent
manuals will cover the twelve month period from 1st July to 30th.
The Government of Uganda (GoU) has a target of universal access to safe water and sanitation
by 2015 (MWLE, 2003). “Water is a key strategic resource, vital for sustaining life, promoting
development and maintaining the environment. Access to clean and safe water and improved
sanitation facilities and improved hygiene practices lead to improved health and are thus
essential investments in human capital. Development of water for agricultural production is
crucial in order to modernise agriculture. These all have a direct and immediate impact on the
quality of life and contribute to long-term social and economic development and thus the
eventual elimination of overty” (MWLE, 2003).Read More...
